Whom a Christian cannot vote for

Episode 1 · 27 October 2026 · 40:44

From the episode

Our second president, John Adams, viewed politics as a "divine science." Divine means that it has to do with God. John Adams was a strong Christian and well-versed in the Bible.

These days, politics is almost a dirty word. Given this biblical history, to me, politics means "God's policies" – a divine science.

My perspective: all of this is a distraction from the true reality of all elections. Elections are judged solely by whether our candidates and our policies are agreeable to God.

And we will discuss why Christians cannot – as a matter of faith and obedience to God – vote for Democrats because they have chosen to reject God. That includes any independents whose actions are godless.

I'm also going to challenge churches and pastors to recognize and obey what God has commanded us to do as leaders and His watchmen in what is obviously a spiritual battle.

My men could trust me to take care of them. I saw to it that their blood was not on my hands.

Now I am concerned about you.

0:21This is Veritas, and I am Harris Himes. You may recall that George Washington had John Adams as his vice president, and then John Adams became the second president. John Adams viewed politics as a divine science. We all know that divine means that it has to do with God. John Adams was a strong Christian. He often wrote letters to his wife quoting scripture and he knew the Bible well.

These days, politics is almost a dirty word. People have perverted it. But given this biblical history, to me, politics really means God's policies, a divine science. Scripture played a major role in our earliest laws, many of the states and their constitutions were built entirely upon scriptural principles. Laws are intrinsic to politics, God's policies that's why they are considered such. We read how God delivered the Ten Commandments to Moses. Moses, the giver of the law, and Jesus came to fulfill the law, and He said that virtually not one bit of the law was, would fail until all was fulfilled. And that's why John Adams could say Religion and virtue are the only foundations, not only of republicanism and of all free government, but of social felicity under all governments and in all the combinations of human society.

We, you and I, are going to discuss those forbidden politics, but as a divine science. We'll discuss politics in Montana from the perspective of a divine science, because Montana can be a representative of races all across our country and we will discuss why Christians cannot as a matter of faith and obedience to God vote for Democrats. Why? Because they have chosen to reject God. That includes any independents whose actions are godless. I'm also going to challenge churches and pastors to recognize and obey what God has commanded us to do as leaders and as watchmen in what is obviously a spiritual battle. I also want us to include people who are running for offices like the Supreme Court and judges.

3:33Those people, people, if they are godless and they are what we call liberal, absolutely a Christian cannot vote for such a person. Rush Limbaugh, and I love Rush, had his bumper music and so does Veritas. It's Onward Christian Soldiers. The lyrics go like this, Onward Christian Soldiers, marching as to war, with the cross of Jesus going on before the Jesus Christ, the royal master leads against the foe, forward into battle, see his banner go. All we hear about in radio and TV and the internet, advertisements, and all the mailers we are inundated with in our mailboxes talk about the economy, taxes, some social issues, but mainly how it's going to affect our wallets.

My perspective, all of this is a distraction from the true reality of elections. Elections are judged solely by whether our candidates and our policies are agreeable to God. Now, how could I justify such a simple yet radical position? As we read in the Old Testament of the Bible, there are blessings and cursings which God renders in accordance with obedience or disobedience to him.

Those who obey him thrive. Those who don't will ultimately be punished. The first time we see this play out is with the great flood in which only eight people survived, Noah and his family on the ark. Jesus speaks of this, and the Apostle Peter also writes of this great flood. Let's look at Genesis. This talks about the flood. Genesis 6, verses 1 through 7.

5:46Now it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born to them, that the sons of God saw the daughters of men, that they were beautiful. And they took wives for themselves of all whom they chose. Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And the Lord was sorry that he had made man on the earth, and he was grieved in his his heart. So the Lord said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth, both man and beast, creeping thing and birds of the air, for I am sorry that I have made them.

Now let's pause and consider what we've just read and what the ramifications are. The wickedness of men and fallen angels, sons of God, caused mankind's destruction instruction by God. Paul writes about this issue in Ephesians 6 verses 11 and 12. He writes, put on the whole armor of God that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness, in the heavenly places. John Adams put it this way, the question before the human race is whether the God of nature shall govern the world by his laws.

We all remember what President Reagan said, if we ever forget that we are one nation under God, then we will be a nation gone under. And so we have forgotten, and so we are. Now let's look at the second verse of Onward Christian Soldiers. At the sign of triumph, Satan's host doth flee. On, then, Christian soldiers, on to victory. Hell's foundations quiver at the shout of praise. Brothers, lift your voices loud your anthems raise. In 1978, President John Adams stated to the military, our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other. Consider what that means. If you want to identify those who are immoral, those who are licentious, those who are godless, then those are the people who are trying to tear apart the Constitution.

9:17Here is what I think the church should do biblically. The Apostle Paul writes to the Romans, he who leads, do so with diligence. Romans 12, 8. I have set watchmen on your walls, oh Jerusalem, they shall never hold their peace day or night. You who make mention of the Lord, do not keep silent. That's in Isaiah 62, 6. Continue. I'm going to pause a moment and put on my glasses so I can see a little bit better. I, I wish I had all these memorized, but but obviously I've got some cheat sheets in the background and I want to be able to see them more clearly. Let's go to what Ezekiel says.

Again, the word of the Lord came to me saying, Son of man, speak to the children of your people and say to them, When I bring the sword upon a land and the people of the land take a man from their territory and make him their watchman, when he sees the sword coming upon the land, if he blows the trumpet and warns the people, then whoever hears the sound of the trumpet and does not take warning, if the sword comes and takes him away, his blood shall be on his own head. That's Ezekiel third. Now however, the person who who heard the sound of the trumpet but did not take warning, his blood shall be upon himself.

But he who takes warning will save his life. But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet and the people are not warned, and the sword comes and takes any person from among them. He is taken away in his iniquity, but his blood I will require at the watchman's hand. When I say to the wicked, O wicked man, you shall surely die, saying to the Lord, and you do not speak to warn the wicked man from his way, that wicked man shall die in his iniquity, but his blood I will require at your hand.

12:07Nevertheless, if you warn the wicked to turn from his way and he does not turn from his way, he shall die in his iniquity, but you have delivered your soul. Continuing on with Ezekiel, say to them, as I live, says the Lord God, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turn from his way and live. Now let's go on to address the issue of the church today and talk a little bit about the 501c3. The 501c3 that many churches have as a corporate structure states that a church may not take part basically in politics, that the church cannot cannot endorse any candidate, or, heaven forbid, the church will lose its tax-exempt status.

So, let's consider that as we read in Numbers chapter 16, God names Korah, Dathan, Abiram, and On, who challenged God by objecting to the leadership of Moses and Aaron. Moses warned those who would partake in Korah's rebellion and suffer Korah's punishment. Depart now from the tents of these wicked men, touch nothing of theirs, lest you be consumed in all their sins. The reason those verses are important is that why should the church not be able to name names and endorse or condemn people? The Bible does. God does. He names people just like he named Korah and the rest of them, who would be consumed, incidentally, for their rebellion. The earth opened up underneath them and swallowed them alive, as John names people in Third John 1, 9.

John writes I wrote to the church, but Diotrephes, who loves to have preeminence among them, does not receive us. There John is naming Diotrephes as a bad guy. The Apostle Paul also names names. He names the good guys and the bad guys. We read in 2 Timothy 4, Be diligent to come to me quickly, for Demas has forsaken me, having loved this present world and has departed for Thessalonica. Crescens for Galatia, Titus for Dalmatia. Only Luke is with me. Get Mark and bring him with you, for he is useful to me for ministry. Tychicus I have sent to Ephesus. Bring the cloak that I left with Carpus at Troas when you come, and the books, especially the parchments.

15:32Alexander the coppersmith did me much harm. May the Lord repay him according to his works. You also must beware of him, for he has greatly resisted our words. Now, here's the the situation that I face, that all you pastors face, all the churches face. When we remember what God said in Ezekiel about the watchman who does not warn, the blood will be on the watchman's hands. If I do not warn all of you, if you do not warn in these elections, if the churches do not warn, the blood of people will be on our hands because we live in perilous times. We know that, as I will speak later, you see Europe burning, you see all Germany, France, Italy, all those countries falling apart because of the socialistic practices and the influx of Muslims.

We live in in perilous times. That means we as Christians, you whom a Christian cannot vote for, as a combat Marine, I had a tank platoon on the DMZ in Vietnam for over 10 and a half months from 1967 to 1968, the Tet Offensive and Khe Sanh. I bring this up because one of the things that I had to learn as a Marine is that you follow orders. You follow orders from from your company, your commander, your battalion commander, and you certainly follow orders from God. So here I am in Vietnam. I have my Marines and we're building McNamara's Maginot Line. That meant hundreds of trucks, several ambushes a month, and quite frankly we killed hundreds of NVA, but they were also trying to ambush us.

I was medevaced twice fighting for God and country. As a result, I have utmost respect for law officers and firefighters. They put their lives on the line all the time. But one important thing was, my men could trust me to take care of them. I saw to it that their blood was not on my hands. Now, I am concerned about you. You who are listening to me now.

19:08In our country, there are two primary parties. The Republican Party and the Democrat Party. The Republican Party lists protecting freedom of religion and many pro-family interests in its platform. We used to have a stronger platform from the standpoint of mentioning God, but that's the current platform. And granted, not all Republicans measure up to the standards, but at least there There are many who attempt to, and do, measure up.

On the other hand, the platform for the Democrat Party intentionally omits any reference to God, and their goals are clearly and demonstrably antithetical to God's laws. Since we know that God hates hands that shed innocent blood, Proverbs 6, 17, that means like abortion clinics, etc. Then what are Christians to think about someone, indeed, a whole political party which supports abortion and until the time of birth. Some Democrat states kill the living child even after a botched abortion. The current platform also speaks and favors trans, transsexual surgeries, and many transsexuals have rights. These are clearly against God's laws. So I ask, which party's platform would appeal to God? The answer is clear. I'm going to use the Montana elections as a microcosm of elections going on across the country and use that as a springboard to looking, to looking at related issues for many reasons.

The most hotly contested race in Montana is that for U.S. House District Number One West. As I studied this, I was sad to see that in this culture no candidate specifies that he is a Christian. But I'm going to give you, in accordance with Ezekiel, so that your blood is not, my, on my hands, I'm going to tell you the candidates you can't vote for. First, you can't vote for a Democrat, any Democrat, because that person chose, chooses to run on a platform that rejects God, and even Even though some Republicans are not ideal candidates, even far from ideal candidates, you can't vote for a Democrat.

22:16There may be rhinos, Republicans in name only, but the rule remains. You cannot biblically vote for a Democrat. God says so. Remember Moses warned those who would partake in Korah's rebellion. They would suffer Korah's punishment. The reason I bring that up is because those of you who vote for a Democrat are the same as taking part in Korah's rebellion. God says, depart now from the tents of these wicked men. These Democrats touch nothing of theirs lest you be consumed in all their sins. Now we read in Second Chronicles another interesting verse. Now a certain man drew a bow at random and struck the king of Israel between the joints of his armor. This was in a battle where he had joined, he had invited King Jehoshaphat of Judah to be out there with him.

Jehoshaphat was a good king Ahab not so. So he turned to the driver of his chariot turn around and take me out of the battle for I am wounded. The battle increased that day and the king of Israel propped himself up in his chariot facing the Syrians until evening and about the time of sunset he died. Then Jehoshaphat the king of Judah returned safely to his house in Jerusalem. And Jehu, the son of Hanani the seer, went out to meet him, and said to King Jehoshaphat, Should you help the wicked and love those who hate the Lord? Therefore the wrath of the Lord is upon you. What that means in the context of what we're talking about is, Democrats hate the the Lord.

Should you help those wicked Democrats, fear the wrath of the Lord being upon you should you do so. I am the watchman, and even as presumptuous as it sounds, you cannot vote for a Democrat. Paul writes in 2nd Timothy 2, let everyone who names the name of Christ depart from from iniquity. That means iniquity is voting for a Democrat or someone, an independent, a Supreme Court justice who hates God, who does not follow God, does not love God.

25:26Another way of looking at it and arriving at the same conclusion is where Jesus said, he who is not with me is against me and he who does not gather with me scatters abroad. When you vote for a Democrat, you are not with Christ and you are against him, and you help to scatter abroad. Now here are the people who are the Democrats whom you cannot vote for. The Democrats candidate is Sam Forstag. He's running against Aaron Flint in the West District in Montana. Sam was a paid lobbyist who earned it almost earned almost a quarter million dollars lobbying for radical, at least from a Christian standpoint, special interest groups. He worked for the ACLU, an extremely liberal group.

I know that because I once lobbied against them in the Montana legislature myself when I was lobbying for pro-family rights. His top clients included Planned Parenthood, the greatest abortion mill in the country, in the world. Montana, unfortunately, has some of the most liberal abortion laws in the country. At a recent political rally in Missoula, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, often known as AOC, and Bernie Sanders spoke on his beset. Forstag lobbied against legislation that would have kept biological males out of girls' sports against legislation banning gender gender transition surgeries for minors. He lobbied against legislation strengthening penalties for assaulting peace officers and judicial officers. He lobbied against legislation increasing penalties for drug dealers whose drugs result in someone's death.

He lobbied against all those things and you You can see yourself the things that would be anti-God in those things. He voted in favor of local governments to create a sales tax. He voted against legislation revising some state income tax deductions for dependents. He lobbied against legislation banning sanctuary city policies in Montana. Imagine that. He wanted, he wants to keep sanctuary cities in Montana. He lobbied against legislation strengthening religious liberty protections against government restrictions. Again, listen to that. He lobbied against legislation that would strengthen religious liberty protections against government restrictions. He lobbied against legislation increasing penalties for damaging critical energy, mining, railroad, and telecommunications infrastructure. And then I've seen some recent placards sent out in the mail, and he's always accusing Aaron Flint of having these data centers.

29:11When I look at the things that he was lobbying against, data centers seem like a pretty tame thing compared to his wanting to raise taxes all over the place and increasing penalties. He votes against legislation increasing penalties for damaging critical energy, mining, railroad, and telecommunications infrastructure. What is that called? Hypocrisy and probably lying. He lobbied for allowing drag shows to target children in elementary schools and libraries. That means that he's in favor of all the transsexuals, the transsexual stuff that God abhors. Virtually all the things Sam Forstag stands for are against God's laws. Clearly, the most odious of them of them would be limiting religious liberty, supporting abortion, gender transition surgeries for minors, and drag shows.

Raising taxes also hurts God's people. It almost goes without saying that being supported by AOC and Bernie Sanders, among the most liberal Democrats who espouse the totally destructive policies of the Democratic Socialists of America, the DSA, says just about everything. thing. Those policies are largely responsible for why Europe is burning. Communism slash socialism called the opiate of the masses by Karl Marx, all of these given to you if Sam Forstag wins.

Paul writes, and this is what we should keep in mind, the biblical practices in 2 Thessalonians 3. For you yourselves know how you ought to follow us, for we were not disorderly among you, nor did we eat anyone's bread free of charge, but worked with labor and toil night and day, that we may not be a burden to any of you, not because we do not have authority, but to make ourselves an example of how you should follow us. For even when we were with you, we commanded you this, if anyone will not work, neither shall he eat. That goes against everything the DSA stands for. They want to give everything to everybody ostensibly without any cost.

32:10Oh yes, they're going going to steal from the rich so they can give to you. But if that happens, pretty soon there won't be any rich people, there won't be any money, and we will burn like Europe. Socialism and communism are both against God's laws. They state directly that they do not believe in God. That's why Karl Marx called it the opiate of religion. The Senate independent candidate is Seth Bodnar.

In addition to being the recent president of the University of Montana, he is also a West Point valedictorian, a Green Beret, a Rhodes Scholar, and he taught at West Point. He has two master's degrees from Oxford. That's all well and good, and I can respect anyone who's worn the uniform. I can certainly respect somebody who graduated first in his class at West Point and was deployed overseas. However, consider this then. While he was the president of the University of Montana, he promoted transgender and woke policies. These are absolutely not compatible with God's laws. Putting aside the fact that he fought for our country and this kind of thing, from God's standpoint, you cannot vote for him.

Especially when you see Peter Buttigieg, the former transportation secretary under President Biden, and a homosexual, came out and endorses Bodnar over the Democrat candidate, Alani Bankhead, who is a retired Air Force lieutenant colonel with 21 years of service. So she's the Democrat, Bodnar is the independent, being supported by a major Democrat figure. I think that you can say they're all part of the same flock. You cannot vote for them. We see Paul writing about the problem of homosexuality in Romans 1. This is what God says. For since the creation of the world, his, God's invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, because although they knew God they did not glorify him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened.

35:09Professing to be wise, they became fools, and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man, and birds, and four-footed animals, and creeping Therefore, God also gave them up to uncleanness in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves, who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshipped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen. men. For this reason God gave them up to vile passions, for even their women exchanged the natural use of what is against nature. Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error, which was due.

Now, let's go to the Republican for that West District. Aaron Flint is the Republican candidate. He's been endorsed by President Trump. Also in Montana, it's an important credential to be a native Montanan, and in Aaron's case, he's a fifth generation Montanan. For me, it's important that he has a military background. He served more than 20 years in the United States Army National Guard and Army Reserves. He fought in Iraq, Afghanistan, and supported high-profile missions in Africa and the Middle East. I can relate to that, especially since as a Marine who fought, I feel a certain both camaraderie and understanding of those who have fought in combat and I've met Aaron and Aaron is a fine young man.

While he was doing this he earned two bronze stars and retired as a lieutenant colonel. He joined right after the attack on 9-11, but of greater, greatest significance is that he is a Christian. I asked him, and he told me so himself. Kurt Alme is the Montana Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate. He is strongly endorsed by President Trump, who appointed him to be U.S. Attorney for Montana in each of the president's terms. He has an excellent legal pedigree, including Harvard Law School and public service credentials. credentials. But again, the most important fact is he is a Christian. Troy Downing is the incumbent Republican candidate for U.S. House District Number Two in the East. He's been endorsed by President Trump many times.

38:29Interesting, he joined the Air Force at the age of 34 right after 9-11 and served eight years with the Air Force and Air National Guard. I won't hold it against him, that was in California. He was an Air Force aviator and flight engineer, participating in combat and medical rescue missions. He completed two service tours in Afghanistan, volunteering in a military hospital in Kandahar. I also spent 20 plus years in Southern California and Montana. People will always call it Californication, excuse my language. Downing has an impressive business background, including participation in the founding of Yahoo.com. He is rated A-plus by Susan B. Anthony List for his consistent pro-life votes in the last Congress. Montana Montana Senator Tim Sheehy, who is not running now, but endorses both Alme and Flint.

Most of you know that Tim is a Navy SEAL. He has the Bronze Star with Combat V for Valor, a Purple Heart, and the Army Ranger Patch. As an Annapolis midshipman, he was the first midshipman selected for the Army Special Operations Exchange, where he went to jump school, ranger indoctrination, and U.S. Army ranger school. He served with 75th Ranger Regiment and the 5th Special Forces Group. He's a dynamic speaker, and again, he endorses the other two running Republicans.
